insaane-dreams asked: hi my names brianna and I'm interested in going to the art institute and I heard something's about fraud and how it's a waste of money and you don't learn anything useful and I just wanted to ask you how you feel about it as a school and if I should give it a try? thanks
Thanks for asking me, honestly it depends on your “skill level” in terms of entering; granted, the school is damn expensive as hell and I know for sure I’m going to be in debt for quite some time but I personally had basics down (i.e: Fundamentals of drawing, color theory, design 101 type shit, everyone has their strengths but always put 1000% no matter how hard it is) if you got that down you’re golden for the first couple quarters as a freshman. As you progress through the program you chose (I’m a graphic design major and I graduate in Spring for my A.S) and what you do beyond that is gaining a shit load of connections/networks that you normally would never had gotten if you try to gain connections as an independent. Seriously talk to advisors & faculty they will help you out A LOT rather trying to handle shit by yourself. I had a art background for years but I never really bloomed ‘til I actually started going to that school. I.M.H.O do what you love and the rest will follow. as for the ‘fraud’ shit that was going on, it really depends on how you take it. This school is a “for-profit” school, so you will dish out $tacks, but gain A LOT of connections in the industry you’ve chosen and take advantage of anything and everything they offer you as incentives. Again, remember once you’re in, they will hassle you hardcore if you cannot make any sort of tuition payment (I’m paying out of pocket plus FAFSA & Sallie Mae loans) unless you’re Military, Dependent of a Military member which can pay for everything, or just rich as hell you’re good. I hope this answers your question, thanks for reaching out!
